| Essential Equipment Required For Hiking |
|
In the Northern Isles they often boast that you can have four seasons in one day. Well the truth is that you can have 4 seasons in one day anywhere in the UK and if you are at high altitude then the four seasons can mean snow, torrential rain with a bit of sun and a strong wind thrown in for good measure; all in just the one afternoon! That is why, if you are going walking or hiking in the UK, you definitely need all the best hiking equipment to ensure that you are safe. This means that you need to have proper hiking boots, walking poles as well as hiking bags and hiking gloves. While hiking equipment may not be cheap, it is a worthwhile investment that can protect you from the harsh forces of nature. Hiking boots are really important because they will help to protect your feet and give you a good grip which makes you less likely to fall. If you fall then you could end up stranded half way up a mountain, so the last thing that you want is to take a tumble. As a general rule, always buy the best hiking boots you can afford; I usually get my hiking boots from Snow and Rock because I find their range is comprehensive and the prices (for such good quality items) are really competitive. It is so important not to cut corners when it comes to hiking equipment; you really need to buy the best items that you can because one day you may need to rely on them and it is at that point that you want to be sure they don't break or let you down. Until I started hiking I didn't realise that walking poles actually work! It is strange how they fulfil a dual role as well, because walking poles will actually give you increased stability, meaning that you can cope with rougher terrain and keep your balance, but they will also help you to walk for longer. They enable you to cover more terrain and within a shorter period of time. It's really important not to cut corners and assume you can do without some things. Some people think that they don't need proper hiking gloves, but if you are using poles, then you need gloves, especially if the terrain becomes difficult. Otherwise you are likely to get blisters very quickly. So don't skimp on buying what you need, it really will come in handy! As well as researching hiking equipment it's also very important you plan your hiking routes and make sure you check the weather conditions before you leave. Water is also essential, especially on a hot summer's day. If you follow the above you will be well placed to enjoy your days out hiking safe in the knowledge you are well prepared for any challenges that may arise. Happy hiking! |
