| Speed Bag Training - How To Get The Most From It |
|
A speed bag is a type of punching bag which is small and is filled with air. It is anchored at its top portion to a platform which is parallel to the ground. They primarily help boxers or fighters to learn to keep their hands up during fights, improve hand-eye coordination and shift the weight between feet while punching. However, they can also be used by individuals who want to strengthen and tone their muscles through a cardiovascular workout. If you are looking for ways on how to make the most out of your training using a speed bag, here are some tips. If you have not bought a speed bag or are in the process of buying one, go for a large one. Speed bags come in a variety of sizes and getting a larger bag will make it easier for you to hit since it would serve as a larger target and would also be moving slower than a smaller bag. If you are just starting your training with your speed bag, you need to know that you should have your hands protected properly. You need to wrap them or wear a small pair of gloves to prevent your knuckles from being cut or bruised. If you are using your speed bag for the first time, remember that you have to start slow in order to master the proper technique of using it. Ensure that the speed bag is properly positioned at the right height. You need to make sure that you are able to stand comfortably under it and that you are not in any danger of hitting the speed bag's frame. The bag should typically be at a height that is slightly above your eye level. The best way to hit the speed bag would be to hit it and let it bounce for about three times. After the third bounce, you can hit the bag again. Use your hands alternately when hitting the speed bag, following a rhythm with your eye. Try to hit it at different angles and using different forces to familiarize yourself on how you should hit it based on your physical capabilities. Eventually, as you become more familiar, you can try advancing your skills and just wait for one bounce before hitting it again. You can also start using smaller bags as your skills progress. A good drill that would be advisable for beginners would be to count to 100 as you hit the bag. To do this, just hit the speed bag using alternate hands and aim to hit it 100 times without missing it. If you miss, start from one again. Eventually if reaching 100 becomes easy, you can change your goal to 200 and so on. Another training drill would be to hit the bag using a ladder system of up to ten consecutive hits using each hand. You basically start by hitting the bag once using your right or left hand and once using your other hand. Afterwards, hit the bag twice with your starting hand and twice with the other hand and so on until you hit it ten times consecutively using each hand. Through following these tips and practicing regularly, you should be able to get the most out of your speed bag workouts and incorporate its use into your overall fitness routine. |
