Basketball Ring

Along with a flat court and a basketball, the basketball ring is an essential part of the equipment needed for one to play the game of basketball. In the men's game, the basketball ring should officially be 29.5 inches in circumference, also known as size 7. For the women's game the ring is size 6 which is a circumference of 28.5 inches. Regardless of the size of the ring, it should always be suspended 10ft up from the playing surface since slight changes in height can impact the shooting accuracy of the players quite a lot. The basketball ring should be positioned 10ft up in the air and 4ft inside the baseline (the line or boundary at either end of the court). Basketball rings in the professional game are typically constructed out of metal and subsequently attached to a backboard made of wood or glass. A basketball net is attached to the bottom side of the basketball ring to show that a basket has been scored by slowing its progress as it falls.

Top players can perform 'slam dunks' on a basketball ring by jumping towards it with the ball, scoring with it and then hanging in a triumphant style. By putting the ball through the basketball ring, a player scores a basket and different points are awarded depending on where the player scored from. From outside the three point line, as the name would suggest, three points are scored whereas shots inside this boundary (including slam dunks) are given two points.
