Boxing Clothing

Whether you are training or sparring in the ring, you will want to have clothing that allows for a great level of freedom for your arms and legs. Wearing the appropriate boxing clothes also gives you that sense of being like one of the greats of the sports such as Joe Calzaghe or Sugar Ray Robinson and stepping into the ring on a big fight night.

There are three main pieces of boxing clothing that you might be considering and here we will go through the pros and cons of each.

Boxing Shorts

Like Mohammed Ali, a boxer needs to be light on his feet in order to land a blow on his opponent while avoiding their swings and a good pair of boxing shorts that does not restrict movement is essential. More modern shorts are made of very lightweight materials that not only allow for movement but also offer a good degree of ventilation to the boxers legs helping him keep cool during a fight or training.

Make sure that when you buy such shorts that you get a good fit as too tight and you will feel uncomfortable during the physical exertion and too loose and the obvious pitfalls await.

Boxing Vest

While these vests are not generally worn in big title fights seen in professional boxing, they are fairly standard uniform for amateur fights with red and blue being typical colours for the opposing fighters. They should give the boxer freedom with regards to his arm movements while providing sufficient ventilation to keep him cool during the fight or training.

Boxing Gown

This piece of boxing clothing might be a bit unnecessary for some people but the feeling you get when walking out to a fight in your own personalised boxing gown is one of the reasons people get into the sport in the first place. These gowns are specific to boxing since they have very loose arms to allow for boxing gloves to slide in and out with ease.

The truth of it is though that, unless you are going to be fighting in front of a sizeable crowd you, you do not need this particular piece of boxing attire.
