Cricket Whites

Cricket whites is the term used to describe the uniform worn by cricketers when they play the sport of cricket. Cricket whites are also known as cricket flannels, which is an historical reminder from when cricket whites were originally made from a variety of flannel materials. Originally, as you've probably guessed from the term 'whites' the cricket whites were exclusively white or cream coloured. However in this modern era of TV and sponsorship, many competitions, in particular the shortened one day series in cricket, cricketers wear coloured kits, which are sometimes known appropriately as pyjamas.

Modern cricket whites will have trousers made with a high elastic content which not only allows for greater flexibility to the cricketers but also prevents significant damage whilst fielding as this can often require the fielder to make extravagant leaps to catch the cricket ball. Higher up, cricket shirts and jumps are permitted to be either short or long sleeved. Bowlers tend to prefer the short sleeved version for the greater arm movement on offer. Wicket keepers will traditionally wear long sleeved shirts to protect themselves from the grass whilst diving for the ball.

Cricket whites can be purchased from any good sports retailer. There are specialist cricket retailers both on the high street and online, however these tend to be slightly more expensive than the larger chains because they ship in fewer quantities. Then again you are more likely to receive specialist advice from these smaller stores and guidance on what and what not to do or buy.
