| Punchbag |

Punchbags on the whole will weigh between 30 to 40kg which provides enough resistance to the boxers arm punches without breaking their hands. There is a punchbag dedicated solely for practicing the upper cut punch (where the boxer will swing his/her arm upwards from a low position to attempt to hit the opponent on the chin and send him flying). This bag is shaped so there is more padding towards the top of the bag is this is obviously the main contact area for this particular punching technique. There are a few different types of punchbags available specific to different punching techniques and/or different forms of boxing. The punchbag is probably the most widely-recognised boxing accessory by the general public. Its purpose is simple – it provides the training boxer with a punching target which cannot easily be damaged, whilst providing sufficient resistance and padding to ensure that the boxer does not overstrain him/herself or injure him/herself either in the process. Punchbags can vary dramatically in price and usually what you pay for is what you get. Some punchbags can cost between £150-£200 but you can be sure that they will last you for many years without being damaged. For those without the money to afford, or space to be able to accommodate more than one punchbag it is best to opt for an all purpose punchbag. These punchbags are shaped in a cylindrical fashion and are usually hung from the ceiling by a chain allowing movement after the bag has been punched. |
